Today I was talking with a friend about how much I miss having my gel overlay manicure..but how I cannot justify paying the money it takes to have it done all the time. I was saying how I know I could do it myself but I would just need to buy the products. I have no formal training, but even my manicurist that I used to go to in Vancouver asked me why I didn’t just do it myself.
Well this prompted me to take a trip down to Sally’s Beauty Supply and check out what was available to me. While I didn’t find myself super interested in any of the products they were offering, I did happen to check out the prices of what something like doing a gel overlay at home was going to cost me!! I would have to buy all the products involved with the application, removal AND a UV lamp to cure the product. Ugh (sad face) how is it possible to want something so bad but not want to justify paying the price for it? Sure, I can do a french polish on myself at home, (which I have been sporting on my nails for the last week) but I am in the mood to not have to worry about chips, or anything like that! I left Sally’s with nothing. Then decided that a walk through the isles of Shoppers Drug Mart always does the trick in making me feel better (that, or a walk through Walmart). I was walking through the isles when I saw Nailene had a new product out! Nailene UV Gel!!! AND it was on SALE!! Here are my ever so poor quality pictures. I had to use my lap top because my camera is currently dead and charging!
I know that I look SUPER creeper in this photo, but holding all them three products was super hard okay!!
I did not/ could not justify purchasing the UV lamp just yet. It was $80.00!! And being that they sell Nailene at Walmart I wanted to check it out there to see if they sell it before shelling out the cash for one. I know that they are an investment, but I just couldn’t do it. These items were on sale so part of it was an impulse purchase because I was so excited to see such inexpensive products! I did not take a picture of the nail brush, I looked too funny, but I am super excitedd!! Once I get my pay cheque all sorted out I will go back and buy the UV lamp. The Top/Base coat was on sale for $8.89, the French Gel was on sale for $10.99 and the brush was on sale for $3.29!!!! The lamp however was not on sale.😦 These prices are a fraction of the cost of the products that were available at Sally’s!!! And, I looked it up online and it seems like the product isn’t actually half bad! The only cons to the product was that its a bit flimsy, but I figure if you put enough layers of it on then it will build itself up and become stronger! I mean it cost me like $22.00 for all of it! I am not complaining! (minus the UV lamp)
I can hardly wait to try this out! I am pretty good at doing french tip on my nails with real polish that I think it will be a breeezzee using gel. I’ve had it done on my nails so much that it should be okay! If not, I may just shell out the money and go and see someone to do it for me!
Let me know if you have tried this product out because I would love some outside feedback! Tricks or tips that would help me use the product in the most efficient way would be amazing!
When I get the chance to try it out you can bet I’ll let you guys know!
Thanks for tuning in! When my camera is done charging I’ll finish taking the pictures for my June Favourites post! So watch out for that!
*****January 5, 2012 Update:
Hey everyone!! I am so glad and thankful that this post has stimulated some conversation in the comments and I appreciate all of the input from those of you who have tried this product. I just wanted to apologize for not trying out the product😦 I unfortunately caved and had some professional nails put on shortly after I did this post, and have been wearing them since. BUT from what I have gathered, the products go on sale VERY often, so keep your eyes peeled for good deals on the light and the actual products. Its a bit of a crunch to buy the lamp, but from what I have heard its worth it! I encourage you to try it and then let us know what you thought in the comments below
