Okay, this is my last post of the day I promise. Seems that I am always mia from posting, and then all of the sudden I am posting like crazy!

The other day I received a lovely letter from my friend. She had sent me a MAC giftcard, for no reason! Just because. We always seem to be surprising each other with nice, small gifts. Well, catching me completely off guard, I had to come up with something quick to send to her!

Going off the inspiration from my monthly Luxebox subscription, I opted to find some inexpensive beauty products that I personally really enjoy. That and the Luxebox boxes are the perfect size!!

Here are some pictures:

Small box, and a thank you card!

The inside of the card says "Heres a piece of folded paper in return"

I used some padding that was packed inside the previous Luxeboxes that I recieved to make sure that the items I placed inside the box won't get smashed or anything during shipping.

I put some of my favourite products in there for her! πŸ™‚ A Rimmel London lipstick in Airy Fairy, some little cubic zerconia earrings, a lip balm classic: Bonnebell, a facial sheet mask, and my favourite nail polish! All of these were super cheap, but at the same time some of my favourite products!! I will probably add some other small things, but I just wanted to share with you a nice gift idea if you’re short on ideas.

Let me know of any last minute gifts that you can think of!

Thanks for reading!

Hi Everyone!

About a week ago, Shannon and I attended the Vancouver IMATS 2011. Our first time at IMATS we were so excited to go!! IMATS stands for the International Make Up Artist Tradeshow. Its a tradeshow where make-up companies set up booths and promote their products. At every booth you get crazy deals too! I was most excited about the Make Up Forever booth! Nyx was super exciting too! We didn’t capture too many pictures because my camera died and we forgot to bring my charger, but the pictures we did are posted below!

Driving down! WOOO!

28 DEGREES! CRAZYY!! In Prince George we have been getting rain, and rain only all summer. So we were super excited to see hot weather.

On our way downtown!

Shot at the NYX booth from the Make Up Forever lineup! To the left is the Ben Nye booth

Waitin' In linnee..

Make Up Forever HD Blush in #4. The only thing that I bought 😦

Smoky Lash Mascara. The only thing Shannon bought! (Eyeliner is from Sephora, was a 100 point perk)

Eyelashes galore at the NYX booth

Shannon bought a nice neutral palette!

I bought two lip liners! One hot pink, and another red. They were on sale half price!! I didn’t take a photo of them though.

Make-up Artist doing some costume makeup at the Ben Nye booth

Vancouver Film School. There were a bunch of students doing costume makeup. This guy caught us taking pictures of him, and was nice enough to flash us a smile πŸ™‚

After watching Leesha aka Xsparkage do two make-up tutorials using Naked Cosmetics, we stoped by the Naked Cosmetics booth for a picture!

JAPADOG! Have you guys ever watched Eat St on the Foodnetwork? Well there was a Japadog stand right outside the Waterfront Sky Train station, and we stopped to get one. We both got a veggie terimayo, mmmm they were delicious. I could eat them everyday for the rest of my life!

Terimayo: Veggie dog topped with Terikayki sauce, mayo, caramelized onions and nori.

On our way home!

I would definitely like to go again next year. The Vancouver IMATS is a lot smaller than the ones in New York and LA, so there aren’t as many well known vendors that attend. None the less though it was still lots of fun!!

Hi Everyone!

Caitlin here πŸ™‚

Earlier today, I posted that I had lost my camera charger 😦 Luckily, my Ipod touch has a dandy camera and I was able to take some pictures of my favourite items!!! The quality of the pictures isn’t the best, but I made do with what we have! I am currently looking into a new camera, and inexpensive suggestions? Let us know in the comments below!

Here we goo:

Your monthly Yuki cuteness!! πŸ™‚

Β She is just the cutest! She’s been very needly lately, I’m not too sure what it is! Cute none the less.

Mat Velvet +

Those of you may now based on my product reviews, but I have extremely oily skin. When Shannon and I attended Imats Vancouver, I was so stoked to go to the Make Up Forever booth and grab one of these! Maybe even two considering everything was 40% off!! I was super disappointed to learn that they had sold out of my shade the day before (we went the second day). Still determined to get my hands on this product I went to Sephora and picked it up. This foundation works absolute wonders on my oily skin. It has the perfect amount of coverage (full), and stays matte throughout the day. By the time the evening rolls around and I am ready to wash my face, I can tell that my skin is slightly dewy, but during the day when it matters, this foundation holds up! I am in the shade 35 right now, for the winter I think that I would purchase a shade lighter, because I am more tanned than usual right now. This foundation goes for $39.00 + Tax CDN at Sephora, a hefty price for a foundation, but worth ever penny!

HD Blush

I purchased this blush at Imats Vancouver! The only thing that I got at the Make Up Forever booth!! Can you believe it? The lady helping me kind of talked me into buying this product. I for one am a huge fan of bright pink blush, and while this looks very scarey when you first apply it, it blends into the perfect pink colour! It also stays on foooreevver. Its a creme blush, and you only need the smallest amount to get rosy cheeks!! I suggest applying it to your cheeks with your fingers, then blending it out with a sponge or foundation kabuki brush, even a duo fibre brush would work excellent.

LaVanila Healthy Deodorant

I have to admit, this deodorant is sooo awesome! Its a healthy deodorant, which means that it has no parabens or gross stuff. It smells like Vanilla Coconut! πŸ™‚ Its a deodorant, not an antiperspirant so keep that in mind if you’re interested. I don’t really have a huge sweating problem so this is fine for me! I bought it at Sephora, and they have three other flavours I think. The LaVanila range also has perfumes, and body lotions with the same scents!

Sweet Vanilla And Fig Organic Lipbalm

I just recently bought this, so I am not too sure if it counts a favourite just yet, but I love the way this lip butter works and the scent is to die for! Shannon and I found this the other day at London Drugs, and it was on sale (which was a huge bonus). It smells like sweet vanilla and fig, and has a huge amount of shine when you apply it! I put it on before bed and during the day, and it hasn’t dried out my lips at all! This lip balm is all organic, and doesn’t include any mineral oils or parabens! Huge bonus!! There are other flavours and they all smelt delicious! Check out your London Drugs to smell them all!!

Wet N Wild Nail polish!

Some of you may recognize the coral coloured nail polish (third one from the left) from my June favourites post. It has turned out to be the most amazing nail polish ever! Staying on my nails without chipping for over a week! I was at Walmart the other day and noticed that these were on sale for $1.00!!! I couldn’t pass it up! Try these out for a cheap, amazing nail polish.

Makeupforever Smoky Lash Mascara, and Aqua Eyes Eyeliner

The Smoky Lash mascara is Shannons, (She bought it at the Make Up Forever Booth at Imats) and I have say that I am in love with it! The brush is unlike anything I have ever seen and to me it provides the perfect amount of thickness. Not too clumpy, but does require some getting used to. Its a nice dark black colour too! Perfect if you like messy thick lashes like I do on a daily basis. Also perfect for those of you who would like a smoky mascara for a night out! The Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes eyeliner was a 100 point perk from Sephora. I’d never tried it out before, and I thought it was soo cute cause it was so small. This eyeliner is amazing! Works wonders on the waterline and stays put all day! It glides on like a glove, and is nice a black.

Food Favourite (That I don’t have a picture of): OATMEAL! Shannon and I have been on an oatmeal KICK since we started eating clean over a month ago. So much so that we just bought a 5kg bag of it!! Our favourite thus far has been Old Fashioned. We have tried Quick Oats, 1 Minute Oats and now Old Fashioned. Old Fashioned oats are just oats, and don’t have a lot of processing done to them. They have a lot more texture when cooked, rather than the quick oats which is a lot more creamy. They do take a lot longer to cook however, but I don’t mind, because for the most part you can leave it alone to cook on the stove for a bit while you do other things. I like to mash half a banana, mix it with the oatmeal, add some milled flax seed, cinnamon and fresh/frozen fruit on top! It is my favourite, most ideal breakfast ever and I look forward to it every morning!

Thats everything this month folks! Let me know what your favourites are in the comments below!

So we did it! Caitlin and I reached our 28 day goal of clean eating πŸ™‚ And we both had great success (Borat moment? hahah)

My personal goal was to lose 5lbs because losing a whole 10lbs I thought would be too much for my frame. Furthermore, I wanted to build some muscle strength that I’ve noticed I’d lost over the years when I used to play competitive sports. In the end I lost 7 lbs!Β  Which is great. I must admit that I had a fairly easy time with this “diet”; The progression from my previous eating habits to 5-6 smaller, more nutritious meals was no struggle at all. The workouts are something I also enjoyed. I like being active every day, and I suppose having a reason like eating clean really helped me jump start my workouts every day. I had the mentality that I might as well just try it for 28 days and see how it goes, and in the end I’m really glad I have it an honest chance! The other thing I noticed is that I have to actively choose whether or not I want sugary desserts now that I’m “allowed.” I honestly feel a bit guilty about eating processed foods and sugar now! I mean, I haven’t for 28 days so why start now? I definitely think twice about it. I think now that this diet is over it’s all about maintenance and slowly incorporating foods that I previously couldn’t have (like dairy, bread, dessert, the occasional glass of wine); moderation is key! Tosca mentions that it is okay to have treats after the 28 days and in the maintenance phase just so long as these treats stay treats! If you start eating them everyday, then they’re not treats anymore, they’re part of your everyday routine, so what’s the point in that?

I totally understand why this eating plan is meant for the last 10lbs only – It is very strict! No sugar of any kind, no processed foods, avoiding excess salt, no breads or dairy! (Goodbye cheese 😦   ) Plus working out 24 of the 28 days! With that said, I also understand why this eating plan is not appealing to everyone. I have to say that even though there are all these restrictions, it really helps to have an open mind about food. Not once did I find myself unsatisfied or starving. Of course I missed eating my mom’s homemade mac and cheese, or baking cookies and eating one fresh out of the oven! But I experimented with buying new foods, adding flavor using fresh herbs or spices instead of cooking with butter or a tonne of salt. If you’re serious about losing those last 10lbs, getting healthier and feeling fit, then I’d say you should definitely get the Eat-Clean Diet Stripped book. It’s certainly not the only option out there, but it’s definitely one I would recommend to friends.

Before you start eating clean, make sure to read the book from cover to cover at least once! The information is very helpful and it helps you put together a plan so that you are prepared to start losing the weight. If you try to dive right in, it could be very overwhelming and you might get lost or discouraged along the way. Even throughout the 28 days I still referred to the book to re-read sections, get meal ideas, or just re-read sections I found interesting.

Caitlin here!

I’ve not much to report on the diet plan that Shannon hasn’t already mentioned above. I did not find the transition to “eating clean” hard at all. It is exactly the way I was eating before, only more strict. I was already eating 5-6 times a day so this was a piece of pie (not literally though). The workouts were great too! I am a runner by nature, I run as often as I can, but the weights was something new to me. I honestly didn’t mine them at all! Honestly, it worked out because some days I just did not feel like going out for a run, or doing cardio and it just so happened that on those days it was a weights day! Then Shannon and I would go for a casual walk after dinner or something. My goal was to lose the 10 lbs, but to be honest I was very skeptical. I don’t think that I have ever been on a weight loss plan that worked! (Although, I don’t think that I have stuck with any other diet plans). I am very proud to say that I lost 9.5 lbs! To be honest, I didn’t feel like I was losing weight at all… but the pounds just kept coming off! I couldn’t believe it!! I am thrilled with my results and cannot recommend this diet enough!

Now that the 28 days are over, I have found myself sticking to the same eating plan. I still eat everything that I was eatingΒ  before, plus some bread andΒ  a little bit of cheese. Nothing major, I’m finding it hard to go back to my old eating ways! A little bit of sugar, I couldn’t help myself! But honestly, after eating the bad stuff, it makes me feel horrible!!! AND, on top of all this, when I had my first bite of sugary goodness after the 28 days, my skin started to break out so hardcore! I couldn’t believe it! That there alone is enough to make me never want to eat sugar ever again.

All in all, I think that this eating plan is a 10/10! Its easy to follow, but does require some planning ahead of time (which really isn’t too hard). And it actually works!! Shannon and I are living prooff!!!

Let us know if you try it out and what you think!

I’ve been using the E.L.F. HD face powder instead of my regular translucent powder and mac mineralize skin finish powder for about 2Β  weeks now. I have to admit, I picked up this product without knowing to much about it. Here is the product description taken right off the eyeslipsface.com:

“The e.l.f. High Definition Powder is a translucent, versatile loose powder that creates a flawless, “soft focus” effect to the skin. Masks fine lines and imperfections for a glowing, radiant complexion. This incredibly soft and invisible powder is ideal for everyday wear, either alone or over your favorite e.l.f. foundation. Our HD Powder is a makeup artist and e.l.f. fan favorite, and at only $6, it can be yours at a fraction of the cost of the competition!”

Initial Thoughts:

The packaging of this product seems to be it’s downfall. It’s chunky, comes with a powder puff (which I don’t suggest using as they can be very unsanitary) and if you’re not careful when opening it, powder will go everywhere! A great tip for those of you who are thinking about getting this product is to NOT remove the protective plastic barrier that covers the opening to the powder. I suggest using a pin to simply prick a few of the holes (maybe 1/3 of them to 1/2) and it makes dispensing the product much easier.

Application Process:

This powder is very light and goes on translucent – no need to worry about a white cast after applying this product! I find this product applies best with any fluffy blush brush or kabuki brush (which is what I use). To get the product on the brush is kind of annoying. I flip it upside down (lid on!) and shake it a few times, open the lid and dip the brush into the lid of the container where the product has fallen. I only suggest doing this if you havn’t removed the plastic film over the holes, otherwise too much product will come out.

Does it Deliver on it’s Promises?

I would have to say this is a very good setting powder. I have combination skin and this powder provides a light, yet effective mattifying effect. It isn’t cakey at all, and I find it difficult to apply too much. The ELF HD powder also leaves my skin feeling very silky and soft after applying it. As for blurring fine lines, I can’t really comment too much about that, but it does create a nice looking complexion that works with your foundation instead of caking up on top of it. The powder seems to have very fine sparkles in it which aren’t noticeable after it’s applied, but seems to provide a luminous quality in outdoor lighting and flash photography. Also! An added bonus is that this product hasn’t broken me out after a couple weeks of using it.

Final Thoughts:

In my opinion I will continue to use the ELF HD powder. It’s affordable and seems to do what it says it will. Plus the container is huge! You definitely get more than enough product for the price.

However, Caitlin, who prefers heavier coverage than I do, didn’t like the powder as much. She prefers the added coverage of the MAC mineralize skin finishes. Caitlin (who also has oily skin) also felt that the mattifying effect didn’t hold up throughout the day when compared to her usual MAC powder. If you’re like Caitlin, who uses a setting powder to mattify and provide additional coverage, then perhaps this product isn’t for you. However, if you’re looking for a setting powder to mattify slightly oily skin and has a lightweight feel, then this isΒ  a great quality, affordable option!

Have you tried this E.L.F product? Let us know in the comments!

Hey, it’s Shannon!

I’ve been neglecting doing this post because this movie was released quite a while ago! And I was doubting that anyone would actually still be interested. Here we go anyways!

I’m one of those people who like to read a book before I watch the movie. Around the time that I was going to purchase this book, I remembered how much I enjoy audiobooks hahaha (am I the only one??). I really like having them on my iPod and listening to them during my walks or runs because, for me, listening to the same ol’ music over and over… and over! gets suuuper boring and I find myself very uninspired during my run and my runs are somewhat less enjoyable.

Anyways, I found Water for Elephants on audiobook via iTunes for only 5 dollars! (cdn funds). Usually I find that audiobooks can be even pricier than buying the actual physical copy! So I was very pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately… the pleasant surprise started and stopped with the price… I have to be honest I was looking forward to the book. I mean, a movie with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson has to be good! And my natural conclusion was that the book from which the movie was based with these great actors has to be great! Right?? Wrong….

I really struggled to finish this book. It took me a few months ! For some reason I found the plot just plain old boring. You’d think a book about the secret inner workings of a circus and a secret love would be exciting! And I guess some parts were… but they were overshadowed by an overwhelming sense of… underwhelm-ment…

A Short Intro to the Plot:

(Don’t worry there are no real spoilers for those of you who want to read this book)

The story surrounds the memories of Jacob Jankowski, a young veterinary student (about 23 years of age) at Cornell University. I must admit, an interesting angle to the novel is that the story bounces between a young Jacob and his 90 year old self in a nursing home (if you purchase the audiobook it is really nice how the readers do the voices). The story begins with the young Jacob preparing for his final exams at Cornell, and then tragedy hits – Jacob’s parents are killed in a car accident leaving him with absolutely nothing. During his final exam, Jacob breaks down and is unable to complete his test. From there, Jacob leaves and jumps onto a train which he soon finds out to belong to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. Luckily for Jacob, when Uncle Al (the owner of the circus) discovers his education and training, he becomes the show’s veterinarian. The audience is eventually introduced to Marlena (the beautiful performer who captures Jacob’s affections), August (Marlena’s paranoid schizophrenic husband) and various other characters who help and inhibit Jacob’s journey with the circus.

For the most part the characters were well developed, they truly take on a life of their own, so for that I really do applaud the author, Sara Gruen. However, the love story between Jacob and Marlena was soo boring! They meet… and then they’re in love? And yes I’m aware that there is such thing as love at first sight for some people, but as a reader/listener I want to truly see the love connection build between these two characters! Because this novel is in fact a love story when it comes down to it, I found myself not being completely convinced of their affection for one another – there was nothing special about it and I found myself not caring if they ended up together or not.

Also, something I was not anticipating at all! was that there was 18A content in this novel hahaha. By that I mean bad language, sexually explicit content and violence against humans and animals! I understand that maybe this won’t bother some people, and I guess it can add to the intensity of the story, but I personally didn’t appreciate it.

Even though this book is far from my favorite, I have met people who liked this book, and there are other reviews I read online that also found this novel very enjoyable.

As for the audio book quality on iTunes. I’d say for the price it’s a decent buy. The voices are done really well and really bring Gruen’s character’s to life without distracting from the plot. That being said, if I didn’t have someone basically reading this story to me, it probably would have ended up being one of those books that I set down on my shelf to collect dust. So, would I personally recommend this novel? Honestly, I probably wouldn’t.

Please feel free to let me know your thoughts on the book! Also, I haven’t watched the movie, but if anyone is interested in a book-movie comparison, make sure to let us know!

Thanks for reading πŸ™‚
