Hello All!,

The other day when Shannon and I started our 28 Days of Eating-Clean, we found ourselves talking about how expensive this diet experience was going to be! Which raised quite the point, will it cost more to eat-clean? And my verdict is?Β  No. Sure it costs money to buy the lunch box if you don’t have one, but they are super cheap now-a-days, so I think realistically everyone should be able to afford one. When it comes to the cost of groceries I don’t think it will and here is why:

When you think about buying groceries, you take into account all of the “anti” food that you are buying. (“Anti” food is food that is not “Clean”. Such as cookies, white bread, junk food, that sort of thing) Eating-Clean is all about buying the proper foods, and supplying yourself with “clean” food. If you are not buying the “anti” food that you are not supposed to be eating I think that it is very possible to stay within your budget. Because its always that extra bag of chips, or loaf of bread that sets you back. In reality, during the 28 days these are the items you shouldn’t be eating! Here is a sample food list that I came up with today:

-Egg Whites, Hummus, Cashews, Eggs, Avocado, Broccoli, Spinach, Strawberries, Lemon, Blueberries, Banana, Flaxseed, Bell Peppers, Green Beans, Salmon, Mushrooms, plain yogurt, non-fat cottage cheese, skim milk, oatmeal, Celery, Carrots, Quinoa, Brown Rice, Sweet Potato, etc . (Fresh fruit and veggies in general!)

Now some of you may be thinking that, that’s a huge shopping list! Well, for me, you’re right it is, but I also do not shop every week. At this point during the 28 days, I will probably only be buying fresh produce aside from Salmon, oatmeal and dairy products that sort of thing. I hope to keep everything fresh, and only buy items when I need them. Fresh food items in British Columbia are non-taxable so sometimes if I am lucky I can make my way out of the grocery store without being taxed at all!

I know this is a quick post, but I just wanted to share with everyone that I think that it is very possible to stay within your budget if you are eating-clean. Eating-Clean is also gratifying! Learning to eat-clean isn’t just a diet, its a way of life! If you learn to make healthy decisions when you are the grocery store then there is no need to think of eating-clean as a 28 day trend. I think that you should strive to make it your way of life! It’s really a life changing experience that is very simple to implement into every day life. Packing a lunch the night before takes no time at all! Making time for yourself to complete your workout? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy time to themselves! Its all about making sure that you are prioritizing your activities throughout the day. Who knows, it could be the best life routine change you make!

My boss Susan is a HUGE fitness fanatic, and one day she strolled in eating what looked to be the most amazing cookie! I asked her what it was and she said it was a breakfast bar that she had made the day before. I immediately asked for a bite (hehe) and I’m super glad I did because it was the most amazing thing ever!!!!

Here is the recipe:

Β½ cup Canola Oil

Β½ cup packed Brown Sugar

ΒΌ cup Honey

2 Eggs

1 tbsp Vanilla

2 Large Banana(or 1 cup crushed pineapple)

3 cups Large Flake Oats (Quick or Rolled)

1 cup Whole Wheat Flour

1 tsp Baking Soda

1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

1 cup each of Yellow and Cranraisins (or any dried fruit of choice)

1 cup Nuts and Seeds (Almonds, Pecans, Pumpkin, Sesame, Flax etc)

-We also added a cup of small dark chocolate, chocolate chips.

-We doubled the recipe too!! Hence the one cup of chocolate chips. If we had only done a regular batch we would have done 1/2 a cup.

* Mix all ingredients

* Drop by 1/3 cup fulls onto cookie sheets lined with parchment paper.

* Bake until golden brown aprox 15 minutes at 350 F.

* Let stand 5 min and remove to rack to cool.

* Freezer friendly

The finished product!! I love that these are freezer friendly, so if you like to freeze food then this is for you! Now if you read our last post then you might be thinking, why did you make those?! But we do not intend to eat these on a regular basis. They’re actually really healthy, and follow the guidelines of the Eat-Clean diet (except for the chocolate chips and brown sugar) We stuck lots of nuts, raw of course and flax seeds in there. Along with unsweetened dried fruit and a lot of various nuts and such. Super packed with fibre and protien!

Hello All,

Caitlin (and Shannon, (shes out at a friends)) here. This weekend something amazingly terrible happened. My dad bought me (Caitlin) a Costco card. I have a knack for buying things that I really don’t need. That’s the terrible part, but the amazing part? We no longer have to wait for my parents to stroll into town in order to go to Costco. Everyone knows that you can get JUMBO sized food and other products for a fraction of the price at the regular grocery store! So waiting for them to come to town every time we want to go it is kind of a bummer!

Anyway my point is, while strolling through the book and magazine section we came across the book: “The Eat-Clean Diet, Stripped” by Tosca Reno. Which claims to “Peel Off Those Last Ten Pounds” and “Your ultimate dream body in 28 days”. Now, I have to say that Shannon and I keep a very healthy diet. Always have, no reason in particular, but being vegetarians you pick up on healthy eating. I personally have been on a weight loss journey since about late October 2010. I have not quiet reached my weight loss goals, and in fact I feel that the last ten pounds are not coming off as easily as planned! When we saw this book, I thought YES! A way to move out of my plateau! Enter “The Eat-Clean Diet, Stripped” Book. I scanned through it a bit when Shannon and I were soaking in some vitamin D outside. The concept of the book is very much like the concept that I follow from Bodyrock.tv. Eating clean. Eating often. Carrying food around in a trendy lunch bag.

One main concept that the book follows is eating 5-6 small, well portioned meals a day. Tosca Reno really emphasizes keeping a journal throughout the 28 days to keep on track and packing a days worth of food if you work during the day. Below are the lunch bags that Shannon and I chose. Each one came with an ice pack, two small containers and one large!! All for $16.99. Not a bad deal in our eyes! Shannon also chose out a super cute journal to track her progress. I already have a diet journal at home so I opted out of buying a new one.(All items were purchased at Winners, except for the book which is from Costco)

This book is aimed to help you lose those last stubborn pounds that seem to never come off. It’s great for those people who don’t need to lose weight but would like to tone up, those who have hit a plateau (like myself) and those who think that they need to eat healthier in general.

Summary of the Eat-Clean Diet Principles (Taken from the book):

1. Eat more! Eat six small meals each day, spaced at two-and-a-half to three-hour intervals.

2. Eat breakfast every day, within an hour of rising.

3. Make your last meal three hours before bed.

4. Eat a combination of lean protien and complex carbohydrates at each meal.

5. Eat sufficient health fats every day.

6. Drink two to three litres of water each day.

7. Carry a cooler packed with Clean foods each day.

8. Depend on fresh fruits and vegetables for fiber, vitamins, nutrients and enzymes.

9. Adhere to proper portion sizes.

10. Eat only foods that have not been overly processed or doused in chemicals, saturated and trans fats and/or toxins.

Shannon is an Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian and I am a Pescetarian. (I started eating small portions of fish last year when I was living with my boyfriends parents) The best part of the book for me is that it includes a meal plan, and also includes a vegetarian section in the book so that we are able to make sure that we are eating in coordination with the eating plan! Because both of us are not about to give up our eating lifestyle just to lose ten pounds πŸ˜›

All these principles are ones that I have been following since I started following Bodyrock.tv, but this time we mean business. As pictured above, we have picked out super cute coolers!! And we are in the middle or starting to do our meal planning for the next four weeks.

Exercise during any weight loss goal is a necessity. Here is the Eat-Clean workout schedule:

Sunday: Rest Day

Monday: Weights

Tuesday: Endurance Cardio

Wednesday: Weights

Thursday: Interval Training Cardio

Friday: Weights

Saturday: Endurance Cardio

Shannon and I have been doingΒ  a Dance Fitness bootcamp at the studio that I work for on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Yay for us!! So that takes care of those days. I am a runner, have been running for a long time so I will have no problem with the endurance cardio portion of this workout schedule. The weights however may be a different story. I’ll have to follow the pictures that are in the book under the exercise section.

Throughout the next four weeks expect to see progress reports on how we are doing. In the next couple of days we’ll also post sections of the book that we find most useful so if you would like to follow along you can!! We’ll list the eating plan, some options for those of you at home without the book, some of the exercise pictures that are in the book, and maybe some of the key parts of the book that we find most interesting. So watch out for those!

Hello Again! I cannot take any credit for this post, I am simply posting it. Shannon was the baker of these delicious cookies! (recipe from: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/soft-chocolate-cookies/Detail.aspx) She is however sleeping as she works graveyard tonight, and being that I am on a blog posting roll, I thought that I would upload this for you guys on behalf of her.

Late last night, Shannon decided to make these Soft Chocolate Cookies and I tell yah, they are exactly that. Here is the recipe:

1 Cup Softened Butter

1.5 Cup Sugar

2 Eggs

2 Tsp Vanilla

2 Cups all purpose flour

2/3 Cup Cocoa Powder

3/4 Tsp Baking Soda

1/2 Tsp Salt

Confectioners Sugar

Directions included in captions of pictures:

Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time, mixing and beating batter well after each. Add vanilla and combine together.

(We assume that you are supposed to, or can use a mixer to do this, but Shannon just used good ol’ man power.

In separate bowl combine flour (we used about 1 cup white flour and 1 cup of whole wheat flour because we ran out of white), cocoa powder,

Salt and Baking Soda and combine together.

Gradually add dry mixture to your butter and egg mixture. Once fully combined put in fridge to cool for about one hour or until batter is completely chilled and able to be handled. (Shannon didn’t wait the full hour because we really wanted to bake them! So we chilled the batter until it was easy to handle)

Roll 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on un-greased baking sheet. Flatten with fork if desired. I tried flattening the cookies with a fork, as you can see in the photo as well as just leaving them round without flattening. Both methods work very well and bake in 8 minutes. The only difference is the un-flattened cookies bake up rounder and smaller.

Bake at 350F for 8 – 10 minutes. We baked ours for 8 minutes exactly and found that it is all they needed.

Dust warm cookies with confectioners sugar.

These cookies are not too sweet and have a nice light chocolate taste. For those chocolate lovers out there, however, feel free to add chocolate chunks! They are super soft which is the exact texture that I look for in a cookie. A little crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. Shannon got three trays of 12 cookies from this recipe. Which is amazing because they are so good, and I don’t think that they will stick around in the house for long.

The cookies have a smooshy and delightfully chewyΒ  texture when you bite into it and makes it very difficult to stop at just one.

I did a review on the 24 hour lip colour by Maybelline so if you are interested please check that out! Its the perfect pink shimmer for me and I love it. Annabelle’s Le Gloss in Super Bonbon is the perfect punch of pink lip gloss. Its a very frosty colour on the lips and its the perfect mid toned pink! πŸ™‚ The Nivea Kiss Of Shimmer is a lip balm and it’s super inexpensive. On the lips it is a nice sheer wash of pink frost πŸ™‚ Perfect if you are on the run and need a little bit of colour. Its a balm too which makes it more moisturizing than the average lipstick. That and you don’t need a mirror to apply it!

Everyone knows that I love me some pink blush. This one is so perfect and nice! It reminds me a lot of Coralista by Benefit which I also love, but for the purpose of this post, this one is my number one!

I LOVE these colours.You can’t really tell by the photos by the Sally Hansen colour has silver shimmer to it. It goes on very opaque with only a couple coats and I use Seshe Vite to top coat it off. You can’t really see the silver however when its all dried up. The China Glaze has a golden shimmer. I LOVE this colour. It is the perfect pink !!! You can really see the golden shimmer when it’s applied which I love.

Hello Everyone,

So lately I’ve been feeling a lack of inspiration when it comes to posting. I so badly want to do one! But then I have no idea what to post about :(. Well it’s safe to say that I’m back! With a couple posts actually, just when I thought I had nothing, all of the sudden I’m about to knock out two or three!

About a week ago I got my hair done. It was about three weeks in the making because I normally go to my hometown about an hour away from where I live to get my hair done and my hairdresser was all booked!! So I had to wait, which was good because it gave me a chance to think about what I really wanted.

I am a total trend person when it comes to my hair. I am open to trying anything new. It’s just hair, and there is always a fix to anything that you do to it. So I always giv’er when I go in. My hairdresser ROCKS! I love her so much πŸ™‚ She knows exactly what I want, sometimes I don’t even have to explain it to her and she nails it! Anyway, the look that I decided on was the ‘ombre’ affect.

Here is my much failed attempt to take a picture. I kept my original hair colour on top, and opted for a slightly golden bottom. The entire process took about four hours, which is no surprise to me because I am used to sitting in the salon chair for extended amounts of time. When I originally had it done, I felt like it was too orange looking. I’ve since been using the John Freida Tone Restoring shampoo and conditioner, which I think really helped tone it down a bit because I swear that it used to be a lot more orange looking than it is now. Either way,Β  I am super happy with the way it looks now. The best part? Its basically a glorified “hair dye growing out look” so I don’t have to dye it again any time soon if I don’t have the time. It’ll just continue to grow out and keep the ‘Ombre’ affect haha.

The colour of this shampoo and conditioner is purple, which in turn helps blonde hair from going brassy. It works wonders I have to say! And I swear by it. I don’t have to get my hair toned at the salon as often when I use this wonderful stuff!

I find that the shampoo and conditioner when used can be a bit drying, so I have been using some of my new Dove shampoo that I just bought. I just mix half and half in my palm and wash, then mix in some of the tone restoring conditioner and the dove conditioner together and condition.

I for one, love the dove shampoo! It smells so good and used together with the purple shampoo it’s like the perfect hybrid!!

I feel that it’s very cliche to say that I can’t believe how fast this year has been moving, but its true! I cannot believe how fast this year is going by. Before you know it, summer will be over and I will be going back to school. Lets just say I can wait for that to happen.

As per our new tradition, I am posting my favourite makeup products for the month of May. Shannon will update with hers soon, but she had to work graveyard last night and is still sleeping. Here we go!

Kate Spade Bow Ring! My new favourite!!

I love this ring. I wear it everyday. I was a little bit worried since I think that it’s only 14 karat plated gold that it was going to rub off right away and turn my finger green, but I am very happy to say that Kate Spade makes excellent jewelry. I don’t wear it when I am cleaning or in the shower however.

Clinique Black Honey Eyeliner

Lately I have been doing my makeup very natural. I love this eyeliner! I put it on my upper lash line and it makes my lashes look so much thicker. I am normally a black eyeliner kinda gal, but lately this has been my go to.

Benefit Browzing in Medium

I am very unfortunate unlike Shannon to have received my dads eyebrows at birth. Sparse and will probably be gone by time I’m 40, just like him. I haven’t tried a lot of brow products, but this one makes your eyebrows look so natural yet defined and full. I use this everyday! I apologize for the dirty brushes it comes with! Its been about a week since I cleaned them.

NARS Madly and NARS Orgasm

Horrible Swatches, But On The Left Nars Madly, and On The Right Nars Orgasm

I tried to swatch these the best that I could, so I apologize for the bad quality. The pigmentation of these blushes is actually quite good, so I’m not too sure why I couldn’t get them to swatch the best. I have been using Nars Madly as a contour for the last month, and then using Nars Orgasm as my blush on the apples of my cheeks. I also kind of brush the Madly blush up a little bit to blend it in with the Orgasm. Its my favourite combination!

These three eye shadows have been my go to for the last month. I use All That Glitters all over the lid and a bit into the crease then use Cork to deepen the crease even further. I then put Mylar on my brow bone for a highlight. Afterwards I use the Clinique Black Honey to thicken up my lashes! Throw on some mascara and I call it a day.

Shannon’s May Favorites:

This nail polish is soo pretty! I applied 4-5 coats and I know that seems like a lot of effort, but it's worth it! only one coat provides a few glitters, but after 4 your nails become little gems!I painted this colour on my toes, I never really wear colour on my finger nails. But if you're bold like Caitlin, definitely paint this on your finger nails!

This is Maybelline New York's eye shadow quad 02 Natural Smokes. I have been using the bottom left shade eeevery day that I apply makeup. I just love that it's a little lighter than my skin tone on my eyelids and naturally brightens my eye area without shimmer. It's also a great base to build other shadows on top of.


L'oreal's True Match Makeup is amazing! I love how super blendable they are and provide a light feeling medium coverage that is buildable without being cakey. I've noticed that this foundation also has little shimmers in it that isn't really noticable once you apply it. In pictures however, the little shimmers make your skin look very glowy, in a good way πŸ™‚ I have two shades because I mix them to make them match my skin tone perfectly.


This is Givenchy's Hot Couture perfume that for some reason reminds me of raspberries and white chocolate (regardless of whether those scents are actual notes in the perfume). It's a very sexy scent that I got for Christmas. I apply it lightly for everyday wear but misting it into the air and walking through it. I know Caitlin loves it too!
