Good Afternoon fellow bloggers/readers! Caitlin here.
This post, is a first and there are many more to follow. When Shannon and I first started this blog, we decided that we would also include make-up reviews on products to see if they live up to their claims!
Last night at the hour of about 8:00 we decided that it was time for our first review when we saw a commercial on the television for Revlon’s Colourstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick. This them prompted us to head on up to the local drugstore and buy us some lip colour! It was while we were at the store that we noticed Maybellines Superstay 24 Hour Lipcolour. What a great idea! Its on sale, and we can do a comparison!!
Their Claims:
Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick: One-step, food-proof lipcolor with a patented ColorStay™ technology that lasts up to 24 hours–(from the Revlon Website)
Maybelline Superstay 24 Hour Lipcolour:
Meet the 24-hour lipcolor that stretches the limits of longwear:
• Micro-Flex formula glides on and looks gorgeous all day
• No crumbling, no caking, no fading, no feathering, no transferring
• 2-step lipcolor in one pack
• 30 long-lasting shades
–(From the Maybelline website)
Pretty fancy eh? Shannon, being the busy bird she is, is sleeping, and well since this is a 24 hour lip colour challenge and it is already breaching the afternoon I decided to proceed with the Revlon lipstick first without her. Okay folks! Here we go!
My first thoughts are that it applied very smoothly. It was also a lot sheerer than I imagined it being, making it a lipstick that I would defiantly wear a lot.
After about three minutes I did apply another layer, just for good measure. With most long wearing lip colours they do require you to wait a couple minutes in between coats. This did intensify the colour but not a whole lot.
1 Hour Later: After a couple minutes of allowing the colour to dry a bit, I noticed that it became sticky. The formula dried to a semi-matte finish, no chunky glitter but a fine shimmer. I decided to wait a little while to see if it would dry completely… its been about an hour and half since I first applied the colour and its still sticky! I`m not too sure if it is a reflection of how I applied the colour. That being said, I just don`t enjoy sticky lip colours. As for dryness, it feels comfortable, a bit dry, any drier and I would want to put on a gloss or lipbalm on top. I will resist for the 24 hours if I can.
I just kissed Yuki (my all white cat) and there was no transfer. This is a good sign as it is supposed to be food and fade proof!
Update: 24 Hours Later:
My Lips had really dried out, but lets face it, if you are wearing a lip colour for 24 hours you`re bound to have some driness! Especially because I didn`t touch the colour up, nor did I apply a balm on top throughout the day. The stickiness that I had mentioned did stick around, but it was strange because the colour didn`t transfer when I wiped my lips to see if the stickiness would go away. I showered, ate meals as usual, and went for a run! This lipstick really held up! I am very surprised and happy with the results. Shannon did eventually wake up, and when she did her makeup she did put her colour of choice on. She isn`t much of a lipstick person like I am, so she applied a light layer. Her colour held up, and I don`t know if she secretly wiped some of it off during the day, but I would say her`s lasted a good part of the 24 hours. She did mention that hers appeared to be a lot drier than mine. I think I`ll probably be the one testing lip products out from now on 😛 mostly because I looove to try new ones. If you plan to wear a colour for 24 hours then definitely check this one out! Today (April 23rd) I am testing out the Maybelline 24 Hour Superstay lipstick. Part 2 of this 24 hour lip colour review will be up tomorrow!
